Coswell is of historic cultural heritage significance as one of the oldest surviving houses in this part of the east coast of Tasmania. The use of brick nogging as a construction method is rare.

Coswell is of historic heritage significance because of its ability to demonstrate the principal characteristics of a single storey Old Colonial Georgian rural homestead with associated outbuilding.

Coswell is a single storey (plus attic) brick and brick nogged house designed in the Old Colonial Georgian style. It has a hipped roof, verandah to the front, decorative fascia to the verandah, tall brick chimneys, small paned double hung windows, and side and rear extensions. There is also a timber ruin nereby.
